Victory! Victory! Victory! (Merdeka) These energizing words blasted around BMIS during the flag ceremony procession.  The 67th Indonesia Independence Day celebration for this year is something special and different than any other ordinary independence celebration day.

The celebration went well because it was truly colourful. There was a variety of items held during the ceremony. We had angklung exhibition which was performed by secondary students, a remarkable musical performance by the preschool students and the choir which was done by the lower primary.

All the students’ performances really burst up the spirit of Independence Day because they had covered all the aspects of Indonesian traditional music (angklung) combined with modern style music band. Above all, the speech which was delivered by Mr. Rudi was truly outstanding because it reminded the students to love, respect, and care for their country better in a particular way such as how to prepare them in countering the global issues by having good academic records and positive minds.

Ms. Usha’s speech about freedom, stressed upon the freedom to good education and freedom to dream!

After the flag ceremony event, we had a special giving symbolic Idul Fitri donation to the Muslim staff. All the donations were contributed by the students and parents. We thanked them for their generosity. To continue the program, the secondary along with the upper primary students performed some Indonesian songs which made the event more interesting.

Then, there was games for every level, such as makan krupuk (cracker eating), lomba balap karung (sack racing), tarik tambang (tug of war), sarung football and many others. All the students participated in the competition and they were all excited since the beginning. The sense of pride in being an Indonesian and living in a free Indonesia, was the message that was passed on.

We thank all the teachers and staff to make this program successful and we hope that the next coming event will be more meaningful too.

God bless you all.
